In New Orleans and around the world, Jewish Federations are making a real difference for real people. Together, we care for those in need, rescue those in harm’s way, and renew and strengthen the Jewish people in New Orleans, in Israel and around the world.

Since 1913, the Jewish Federation of Greater New Orleans has served as the central coordinating body for the Jewish community. Its purpose is to build and sustain a vibrant Jewish community in the Greater New Orleans area and, in accordance with Jewish tradition, to assure the continuity of the Jewish people in America, Israel, and throughout the world.

The Chai Society

chaiThe Chai Society is a giving level for JNOLA donors who individually donate $180 or more to the Jewish Federation’s annual campaign, which helps Jewish organizations both locally, nationally, and internationally. “Chai” means “life,” and according to the gematria, which is a mystical tradition that assigns a numerological value to Hebrew letters, the letters Het (ח) and Yud (י) add up to the number 18. The Het has a value of 8 and the yud has a value of 10. As a result, 18 is a popular number that represents good luck!

Joining the JNOLA Chai Society is easy! You can either give a one-time gift of $180 or more, or you can sign up for monthly billing – that’s only $15 per month! Just click below and where it says “Gift Amount” select “Other” and put either $180 as a single payment, or put $15 for 12 monthly payments.

If you have any questions or need assistance signing up, please contact Tana Velen at or 504-780-5628.
